Importing from Follow Up Boss

~3 min read

Go to Contacts, then Migrate / Import, then click 'Migrate from Follow Up Boss' to expand it. You will see Option A (API key, recommended) and Option B (CSV upload).

Option A: API key (recommended)

The API path pulls your contacts AND their notes. The CSV path does not bring notes.

  1. 1In Follow Up Boss, open the left sidebar, click Admin, then API, then Create API Key. Name it 'Closr' and create it. The key does not exist until you create it here.
  2. 2Copy the key.
  3. 3In Closr, on the Migrate / Import page, expand 'Migrate from Follow Up Boss', then click the 'Connect with your API key' option (Option A).
  4. 4Paste the key into the field labeled 'Paste your Follow Up Boss API key'.
  5. 5Click 'Import from Follow Up Boss'.

Closr pulls 100 contacts at a time with no row cap. Each imported contact is assigned to you, tagged 'fub-api-import' and 'imported-[date]', and keeps its original FUB tags and source. Notes come in as Note activities on the contact record. Full email and call history does not transfer.

Errors you might see

  • An 'Invalid FUB API key' error means the key is wrong. Go back to FUB and copy it again.
  • 'apiKey is required' means you clicked Import with an empty field.
  • Individual contacts that fail do not stop the whole import. The rest still come through.

How dedup works for FUB

A person with no first name and no email is skipped. A person whose email already exists in Closr is skipped (not merged). People with no email are never deduped by email, so they will always import. You need your account to be on a team for the import to run.

Option B: CSV export

  1. 1In Follow Up Boss, export your contacts to CSV.
  2. 2In Closr, go to Contacts, then Migrate / Import, then 'Import Any CSV'.
  3. 3Drag the file in or browse to it. Closr recognizes the Follow Up Boss column layout.
  4. 4Review the mapping and counts, then click Import.

Use the API key if you care about your FUB notes. The CSV export leaves them behind.
